Our Community

The small cities of Jesup, Odum and Screven
provide the community downtown areas for
Wayne County.

Quality of life in Wayne County is abundant.

We have award-winning healthcare and schools, abundant amenities, a thriving business community and just an hour to the Golden Isles. Wayne County is a great place to live, work and play.

Education

The Cognia-accredited Wayne County School System educates more than 5,000 students in grades pre-K-12. System facilities include a pre-K center, five elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. Annually, every public school in Wayne County meets or exceeds the accreditation standards that support student achievement. The mission of the Wayne County School System is to empower all students to reach their highest potential through growth and service.

Wayne County Chamber supports Wayne County School System through its Partners In Education program. Businesses, civic organizations and individuals are enlisted to partner with individual schools to provide mentoring, mini-grants for innovative projects designed to improve student performance and achievement, scholarships for graduating seniors, attendance incentives, science and social studies fair support, a Teacher of the Year banquet and a Para-Pro Scholarship to assist individuals actively pursuing a teaching career.

Through a successful eSPLOST (Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax), Wayne County School System continues school improvements and renovations, including the new cafeteria at James E. Bacon Elementary School.

Wayne Christian Academy

is a private, Christian-based school serving Pre-K through 10th grade. Wayne Christian provides a safe and nurturing environment with experienced staff and faculty. WCA strives to create a learning environment where students feel safe, motivated, and enthusiastic to learn. Students participate in a traditionally outstanding curricula and fine arts program. Participation in weekly chapel services and in community service projects fosters a focus on character education.

Coastal Pines Technical College

is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia and offers quality academic programs that lead directly to employment or that transfer to four-year colleges or universities. Programs are accessible and affordable. CPTC offers more than 150 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs. Graduates enjoy a 93.2% job placement rate in students' field of study (FY21) upon completion of their career program.

Coastal Plains Charter High School

is Southeast Georgia’s answer to the dropout problem. The school offers a unique opportunity to any student who wishes to earn an accredited Georgia High School Diploma. All classes are held in the evening so students can work during the day and attend school at night. Tuition is 100% FREE for students who enroll with Coastal Plains full time.
